Mission Statement
We, the Pride of Binghamton, are a dedicated space that centers and prioritizes Black Trans and Gender Non-conforming individuals in the struggle for freedom.
We firmly believe that the revolution lies within the most marginalized members of our community. Our foundations are rooted in the profound work of Black and Queer feminists and organizers who have come before us and who continue to lead us. Our politics evolve from this history of resistance and a deep love for ourselves, our communities, and our class.
We function as a group of leaders, sharing responsibility, and decision-making power while expanding the inherent leadership skills within those that join our struggle. As we climb, we lift. Each member is invaluable, and none of us are disposable. This statement is a living document meant to grow and evolve as we do.
We are explicitly feminist, anti-capitalist, and anti-racist. We recognize that racism, homophobia, transantagonism, queerphobia, misogynoir, and ableism are inexplicably rooted in capitalism, and as such, we must take an antagonistic stance against capitalism and the capitalist class. We emphasize that no one is free while Black, Brown, Indigenous, and Asian marginalized genders are oppressed and exploited, and that only through our liberation can all others be liberated.
We understand that it is only ourselves, those standing at the many intersections of oppression, that can free us, and that liberation efforts and leaders must then originate and emerge from within our community.
Our space is sacred, and we protect it as such. We are intentional in developing and maintaining an environment that nourishes and uplifts the individual and the community while working to destroy the systems and pillars of power that exploit us.
While we may collaborate with white accomplices, it is essential to clarify that white people are not entitled to our spaces. Any attempt to weaponize whiteness, when interacting with people of color or to deflect from taking accountability when confronted by the harm they have caused, will result in immediate removal from our community. We are committed to protecting each other and preserving the integrity of what we have collectively built.
Oh yea, and fuck rainbow capitalism.
